“The Caves”: Large cavern at 25′ and a swim through “tunnel” in the reef at 20′ at opposite ends of this dive. Many soft corals, large tridacna clams, healthy hard corals. Usually excellent visibility due to distance from land. About 20 minutes from QBC. Currents mild. Depth: 20-65′

“Broken Reef”: Usually good visibility. Large schools of small tropicals, healthy hard corals, clams, regular sightings of white tip reef sharks. Currents usually mild. Depth: 40-70′

“Chief’s Garden: Also in the same reef system as “The Caves”, “Broken Reef” and the “Playground”. Good visability., healthy hard coral reef. Occasional white tips and turtles. Gentle drift. Depth: 40-80′

“The Playground”: Similar to “Chief’s Garden” but more of a spur & groove formation. Patch of garden eels. Usually excellent visibility. Mild current. Depth: 40-80′

“Coral Gardens”: Healthy hard coral reef system with some soft corals usually with superb visibility. Large tridacna clams common as well as large schools of fusiliers. Enormous 12 ft. brain coral at end of dive on incoming tide. Depth: 35-75′

    No Current

“Qamea Shore”: Good shake out dive and night dive. Resident lionfish occupy two separate coral heads. Anemones with anemone fish and live egg cowries are found in shallow water. Depth: 10-50′

Please Note: Most dive sites in Qamea have some current present. This can range from a barely noticeable current to one where fining is not required! Our Dive team will brief you fully on the dive site conditions and our Diving in Currents tips are available from the Dive Bure.

    Incoming Tide

“Maraia’s Cove”: Mild to moderate current depending on time of month. One wall is thick with concentrations of soft corals, large patch of garden eels, frequent sightings of resident 6 foot white tip shark, and swirling schools of striped mackerels feeding off the drop-off. Depth: 35-65’

“Swirling Coconut”: (Vara Niu is Fijian name; also known as “Still Waters”); Currents can be swift. Exciting and fish active drift. Descend among a school of chevron barracudas, lush soft corals, and numerous large schools of tropicals. White tips common. Mid-way, the dive swirls around two large pinnacles with large concentrations of purple soft corals and swarms of orange anthias. At the end of dive, there are 2-3 baby white tip sharks resting in the sand under a large coral head. Depth: 40-75′

“Long Beach Point”: Easy drift until the turn around the point. Current gradually increases and can be swift. Soft corals, many feather star crinoids clinging to sea fans. Great place to spot Nudibranches! Depth: 40-75′

    Outgoing Tide

“Purple Wall”: Actually three separate vertical walls with thick concentrations of purple soft corals. Currents can be fast but therefore the fish activity is great. Have seen more banded sea snakes here than other sites. Depth: 45-65′

“Qamea Freeway”: Starts near the resort with a sloping wall. Then a right turn and a racing drift over a sandy patch with hard coral bommies. Large schools of tropicals and sightings of white tip sharks are common in the sand. Great place to spot Nudibranches! Dive finishes with a gentle drift up the reef. Depth: 45-80′

“Suthu”: A large pinnacle resembling a woman’s breast begins at 30 feet. Large schools of tropicals. Currents can be strong and change as divers circle the pinnacle. Best dived at slack low tide. Depth: 30-70′

“Lost Reef”: Another large pinnacle near Suthu. Top of reef is also 30 feet but slopes down to over 100 feet. A school of chevron barracuda are usually seen. Divers are engulfed in large schools of fusiliers and jacks as they cascade over the top of the pinnacle. Large sea fans and soft corals abound. Currents are similar but a bit stronger than at Suthu. Large colonies of blue tipped anemones with anemone fish on the lee side of pinnacle. Depth: 30′-90′

“South Passage”: Divers are dropped off at the outer edge of the fringing reef on the southern side of Qamea. A short swim underwater across a sand patch to a parallel reef. Divers follow along the top drifting with a mild current. Sea grapes abound, white tip reef sharks are common and large schools of shy, bumphead parrot fish occasionally cruise by. Depth: 45-80′

  • Dive Courses

PADI Open Water Diver – FJD $950/e-learning FJD$825

The PADI Open Water course is your universally-recognized ticket to underwater adventure.  This course involves reading the PADI Open Water Manual and completing the quizzes inside, then completing a multiple-choice exam.   You will also need to watch the PADI instructional video.  After this you will move on to training and practice in the swimming pool with an instructor, allowing you to learn all the necessary scuba skills.  The pool training is followed for four Open Water (i.e. ‘ocean’) dives, during which you demonstrate the skills you learned.

The time frame of the Open Water Course varies; PADI courses are performance based instead of time based, and everyone masters the skills differently.  There are several ways to make the most of your time here in paradise and still complete your PADI Open Water certificate.  Course includes PADI Open Water workbook, PADI certification card & processing fees, dive equipment, classroom & pool tuition, and 4 x course dives with instructor.

If you have decided to do your PADI Open Water course, the easiest way to proceed is to register for PADI eLearning.  This allows you to complete the book-work, quizzes & exams, as well as the PADI instructional video in your own time, before you arrive at Qamea.  This means that your time at Qamea is spent practicing in the pool, then underwater on the coral reefs – rather than inside, studying!  For more information or to register & start your dive training now with Qamea Resort & Spa PADI eLearning, click here.  The cost of the PADI eLearning course payable to the Qamea Dive Center is $825.  This includes PADI certification card & processing fees, dive equipment, classroom review, pool training, and 4 x course dives with instructor.

If you would like to try scuba diving for the first time, or book an Open Water Course during your stay, please let us know, on reservations@qamea.com.

PADI Advanced Open Water Diver – FJD $795

If you are already a PADI Open Water Diver but want to take the adventure to the next level, you may be interested in the PADI Advanced Open Water Course.  Unlike the Open Water course, there is no full book to read, and no exam – just a few short chapters and quizzes to complete.  Learn how to perfect your buoyancy, dive deeper than you have ever gone, or simply learn how to identify the incredible array of reef fishes in Fiji’s extraordinary underwater landscape – the Advanced Open Water Course is all about fun dives and fine tuning your skills.

The Advanced Open Water course consists of just 5 dives – and can usually be completed in a leisurely two days. Course includes PADI Advanced Open Water workbook, PADI certification card & processing fees, dive equipment, and 5 x course dives with instructor.

For more information about the full range of dive courses offered at the Qamea Resort & Spa Dive Center, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

EANX NITROX SPECIALTY – FJD $500

Stay down longer, and transform the rest of your time spent underwater, for the rest of your diving life.  The Nitrox Specialty is a short and simple course consisting of a small work booklet to be completed, followed by two dives with your instructor on a higher oxygen mix – you will notice the difference immediately!  Essential for every passionate diver who wants to make the most out of every moment under the surface.  Course includes PADI Nitrox workbook, PADI certification card & processing fees, dive equipment, and 2 x course dives with instructor.

For more information about these or a range of any other PADI courses at Qamea Resort & Spa’s 5 Star PADI Dive Center, please contact us on reservations@qamea.com
